My name is John Hummel, and I have been photographing since I was seven years old. This Portfolio is the latest of my creative projects and has been a huge labor of love for me. It contains many of my favorite images from the past several years and includes images of our new life here on Whidbey Island and in Northwest Washington.
I have had a life-long fascination with the beauty of the world as seen through the lens of my camera. My photography has been one of the greatest gifts in my life. It has allowed me to see the unique beauty of the world around me, no matter where my life has led me. One of my great loves, after my wife, Marti, has been the opportunity to share that incredible beauty with others through my images.

“I have been grateful, all my life, for the gift of being a photographer. Digital photography has allowed me to fully explore the inter-play of light and the richness of color variations that nature has to offer. The body of my work has been concentrated on the natural world with a focus on landscapes, seascapes and wildlife, especially birds
For me, good images require an emotional connection with the subject which takes a meditative process to get beyond just “shooting postcards”.
As I continue to shoot, I will continue to look for the interesting and beautiful in everyday life that makes me smile and touches the lives of others who view my work.”
